Success prompts higher expectations for Tulum's first year of operation

Tulum International Airport, Q.R. — A new traveler figure has been set for the Tulum International Airport. Due to its success, authorities say they now anticipate around 1.3 million passengers, an increase from the 700,000 initially projected for the airport’s first year.

In an interview, Tulum International Airport Administrator General Javier Diego Campillo said the initial hope was that around 700,000 passengers would land at the airport.

However, due to the constant increase in flights, that goal has been extended to a more realistic 1.2 to 1.3 million passengers. He reported that new figure is likely to be reached by the end of 2024, which would be the airport’s first year in operation.

Diego Campillo says they have been focused on increasing airport operations, and that during the first six months, the Tulum airport was operating three national airlines and four international airlines.

He says this month, during June, two more airlines will join. Jet Blue on the 13th and Copa Airlines on the 23rd. He says with the addition of those two airlines, the Tulum International Airport will see around 5,000 passengers a day.
