January 23 - Pearson Airport is getting a jump on the snow expected today in the GTA and beyond.

The airport says its airfield surface maintenance specialists are preparing 100+ specialized snow removal vehicles to keep YYZ’s runways clear for the 900 or so flights scheduled to arrive and depart today.

So far Air Canada, Porter and Sunwing have posted travel advisories in light of the expected winter weather conditions.

Air Canada has activated its flexible change policy for flights in and out of YYZ and YTZ today, Jan. 23, as well as in and out of Detroit and Chicago (ORD) because of freezing rain.

Porter’s flexible change policy applies to flights today in and out of YYZ and YTZ as well as Chicago-Midway (MDW), Victoria, B.C. and Windsor, ON for reduced visibility.

Sunwing notes on its site that “snowfall is expected in Quebec, London and the Greater Toronto area throughout Tuesday, January 23rd with a total potential accumulation of 6-8 cm of snow. Travellers with flight departures during this period are encouraged to sign up for flight alerts and check their flight status before travelling, and should allow plenty of time to arrive at the airport. We are monitoring the weather forecast closely and will do all that we can to minimize disruptions to customers’ travel plans.
